  • Gold Arts Award!

    Mon 11 Mar 2024

We are delighted to have been awarded the Artsmark Gold Award.  This prestigious award recognises schools for their exceptional commitment to creativity and is accredited by Arts Council England.  It is the only award for arts and culture provision in England.

In the report, the Artsmark assessor comments, “You are rightly proud of your recent Oftsed inspection result, where the arts were singled out as exceptional. Part of what makes your approach work is your commitment to connecting arts learning to real world contexts. For example, you have ensured pupils have visited the Lowry Museum twice, the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, painted ‘en plein air’ at Shugborough (National Trust), Wightwick Manor (National Trust) and on location in your small county town. You also secured a whole school National Trust membership.  As part of your whole school strategy each year group must visit a site and experience an ‘Art on Location’ trip, and this enriches the way children learn and helps imprint the content and skills by embedding it within a broader experiential endeavour.”

Our Principal, Mr Mark Brandon, said, “I am delighted with this achievement and what it means for our children. It is safe to say that our pupils really do love art!   We have also seen that developing pupils’ creativity has impacted on other areas of learning in school and at home. In other areas such as RE, we have seen improved responses to scripture through poetry, drawing and painting.“

As the specialist hub school for art in The Painsley Catholic Academy this means that other schools within the academy will benefit from our expertise.  Mr Brandon continued, “An important point to note, is that our commitment to the arts has not only benefited the 200 pupils at our school, but our planning and strategic direction has also impacted positively on hundreds of other pupils across our local Multi-Academy, as they follow our guidance and planning. This is an incredible achievement and one that we know will having a lasting impact.”

What a day - what an experience! We are so proud of how our Y4 pupils made the most of the opportunity to be part of a live TV 'Blue Peter' episode and in doing so, how well they represented our school. Well done and thanks to the BBC, the Blue Peter presenters and singer-songwriter, George Ezra who were incredibly welcoming to our children and made the day that bit more special! I think it's fair to say they were all a bit star-struck!

  • St Patrick's Choir Performs to a packed house!

Our amazing Y6 Choir performed as part of 'Stafford's Gotta Sing' in March, 2022. Following a lot of rehearsal and dedicated practice, they didn't disappoint when the big day came. Singing four songs as the penultimate act on stage, they wowed the audience and received a rapturous round of applause. Well done to our pupils and staff for challenging themselves and showing what they are capable of. Thank you to all those that managed to get tickets and support our school as well as our staff who made this possible.

  • British Motor Museum Visit for Year 5

    Fri 26 Nov 2021

What a fabulous day Year 5 had at the British Motor Museum this week as part of their curriculum vehicle on ‘Time Travelling Transport’. We met Bertha Benz and Herbert Austin, dressed up and even took a little ‘ride’ in the museum vehicles. As we journeyed through time, we learnt about how motor travel has developed throughout history, handling artefacts, asking amazing enquiry questions and having fun along the way. We even used the numbers and date on the cars to complete a treasure hunt style Maths Challenge. The children were outstanding and really embraced the experience!

  • New outdoor facilities blessed in official opening

    Fri 14 May 2021

Thanks to Father Bob, Mr Bell and Mrs Brookes for officially opening our new outdoor area for our younger children this week, with a small ceremony and blessing.

These new £35,000 facilities have doubled the amount of outdoor space the children have and are specifically designed to meet the needs of the children in nursery and reception class, enabling them to learn through play in a safe and stimulating environment.  Facilities include climbing stacks, a water wheel, reading areas and a cycle track.

“The past twelve months have really highlighted just how much benefit children gain from exploring outdoors.  Learning outside the classroom supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being.  We were keen to ensure that we offered our younger children the very best outdoor environment possible and the new play area is a triumph of design and functionality. We wanted to provide a calm environment which is important in a busy town setting, with a focus on natural colours and nature, making it an extension of indoors to out. The children have watched the progress daily with great excitement!” commented Mr Brandon, Principal at St Patrick’s.

Work was carried out by Pentagon Play, an award-winning designer of outdoor learning environments trusted by schools and nurseries across the country.  A small opening ceremony marked the occasion on 11th May as the new facilities were officially opened by Mr Bell, CEO of The Painsley Catholic Academy and Mrs Brookes, Chair of the Board of Governors at St Patrick’s and Father Robert Devaney, who also performed a short blessing.

Of the new facilities, the children said,

'The climbing frame is good because it helps to make my muscles strong.' - Zoe Kaczmarek, aged 5

'I like the bikes, I've been practicing pedaling' - Sofia Burns, aged 5

'I have so much fun with the water wall because I can pour water down the pipes.'  - Isaac Forrester-Williams age 4

Let's hope for a nice long dry spell now so that the children can really enjoy this area!
