Homework is set on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday.
Children will be set homework in both paper and electronic form.
Children will receive maths and English activity to complete as homework each week. Children will also be set spellings each week which are to be practised as part of their weekly homework.
HOMEWORK GUIDELINES FOR YEAR 3/YEAR 4
Pupils need regular reading sessions.
Encourage your child to: decode unfamiliar words themselves; use expression and ask them questions about their reading.
Parents are encouraged to comment in the child’s reading record book, shared by all adults involved. It is also useful to read books to your children - modelling expression and asking questions about the book.
Your child may also be given reading comprehension questions – these are most important and they help them with inference and deduction – an area of reading that a lot of KS2 children can struggle.
One task (Grammar/Punctuation/Comprehension sheet) will be sent every week to be shared with parent. This may be split into two smaller tasks.
Century Tech nuggets are also set for completion each week by the class teacher.
10 current words will be set by your child’s teacher, unless they are in a Read Write Inc. group in which case the RWI teacher will send home the spellings. The spellings will be tested in class during the literacy/RWI lesson. At home, you may wish to spend time with your child individually learning and testing the spellings.
One task (could be split into two smaller sections) will be sent every week to be shared with parent. TIMES TABLES Each week children in year 3/4 are expected to learn or revise their tables so that they know them all by the end of Y4.
A maths flex task is set for completion each week by the class teacher
Research and/or preparation
Teachers may ask children to find information or items to bring into class. Children may also be encouraged to ask parents questions or discuss issues with parents.
Additional or different Homework
Individuals such as SEND pupils may be given a different specific tasks to practise with parents. Where this happens, parents and the SENDCO must be consulted and informed.
