In Ket Stage 2 children have a dedicated Whole School Reading lesson for 20 minutes every day. During this time, children are explicitly taught the skills of retrieval, inference and deduction, predictions, how to analyse word choices and comprehend new vocabulary, discuss author's choices, summarise texts and compare and contrast extracts.  

High quality texts have been chosen which match the writing 'hook and a book' text used in English. This allows for greater immersion, engagement and understanding. Our Whole Class Reading lessons are focused on oracy, discussion and comprehension strategies. A wide range of genres is carefully selected to include contemporary fiction, well-loved authors and the classics, through to poetry, information texts, instructions, persuasion and other non-fiction texts types.
