Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day 2026 will be celebrated on February 10, 2026. The theme for this year is “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”. This day serves as a reminder to promote a safer internet for everyone, especially for younger users.

Safer Internet Day 2026 reminds parents that they are not alone in helping their children stay safe online. With new technologies and AI becoming part of daily life, this day encourages parents to learn, talk, and guide their children toward smart and safe choices on the internet.

Parents are encouraged to:

  • Talk openly with their children about what they do online
  • Learn the basics of AI and new technologies together
  • Teach children to protect their personal information
  • Set clear rules for screen time and online behaviour
  • Encourage children to ask for help if something online makes them uncomfortable

By staying involved and informed, parents can help create a safer and more positive online experience for their children.

About Safer Internet Day

Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 170 countries worldwide.

From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
