Key Dates:

Friday 18th January 2019- Year 3's Gods and Mortals 'WOW' day! Please come to school dressed as an Ancient Greek, more information is on the letter that has been sent out to parents/carers.

Thursday 24th January 2019- Measuring capacity maths lesson! Please remember to bring in any empty containers/ bottles for this day.

Tuesday 5th February 2019- Class Photo.

Friday 15th February 2019- Crazy Hair Day! Please come to school either crazily dressed (e.g. odd shoes/ socks) or with crazy hair! The PTA have kindly asked if your child is going to participate in this event, could you please send them into school with an Easter Egg or Easter chocolate of some kind. Thank you!

 

Year 3 Spring Term

Gods and Mortals!

This half term we are learning all about Greece.

We will locate Greece on a map and look at the history of Greece including the lives of the people who lived there. We will also be exploring Greek pottery and have a go at designing and making our own Greek vase out of clay! 

We will also be having a Greek WOW day to really experience being a Greek!

 

In English we are:

Learning about myths and legend stories so we can then write our own

Looking at features of legend stories

Using powerful language to describe a setting

Writing direct speech between characters

Planning and drafting different parts of our own legend stories

Writing our own legend stories using all the skills learnt over the half term.

 

In Maths we are:

Learning to tell the time to 5 minutes past the hour

Investigating the properties of 3D shapes

Finding simple fractions of amounts

Identifying the different coins we use to pay for things and adding and subtracting amounts

Recapping our number bonds to 100

Investigating length and capacity of objects by carrying out practical observations

Learning to divide with remainders

Investigating properties of 2D shapes.

 

In Religious Education we are:

Finishing our unit on Christmas

Learning about the Eucharist in Mass

Moving onto learning about Lent.

Within these topics, we will be learning about and reading Parables, along with writing our own prayers.

 

House Keeping: 

  • Reading diaries must be in every Monday.
  • Homework - goes out on Friday & due back in on Wednesday. If children aren't able to complete homework at home, then they are able to spend their Tuesday and/or Wednesday breaktime in Year 3 classroom completing their homework in our new Homework Club.
  • Spellings - out on Friday and tested the following Thursday. It is essential that your child's spellings are completed daily and the sheet is up to date, as they are checked every Thursday morning before the spelling test.
  • Times tables 99 Club- tested on Friday. 
  • PE kit in at all times - PE days are Wednesday (swimming) & Thursday (PE in school). On Wednesdays for swimming, please can children come to school in either their school uniform, their school PE kit or a sports tracksuit. Casual clothes should not be worn.
  • Mass every Thusday at 9.15am.
  • Celebration Assembly on alternative Fridays at 9am.
