Year 3

Welcome to Year 3
Teacher: Miss Hough

Key Dates:

If your child is going to be receiving their Sacrament of Reconciliation and their First Holy Communion, please ensure you are aware of the three after school sessions they should be attending in preparation for these commitments.

Year 3 children will be continuing with their swimming lessons until May half term (23rd May) as per the details that were sent out via letter, on the last day of term before Easter.

Thursday 2nd May: Sacrament of Reconciliation. This will be taking place after our whole school Mass.

Saturday 18th May: First Holy Communion. Please ensure you have read the letter that was given out to your child which gives you all the information needed for this day. Please also take note of what is recommended for your child to wear. We will also be hosting a Communion breakfast for the children in the school hall prior to the ceremony in the Church- please feel free to come along and join us!

Year 3 Summer Term 1

Tremors!

This half term we are learning all about Tremors.

We will be learning all about volcanoes, earthquakes, tornados and tsunamis around the world. We will be investigating where the remaining active volcanoes are in the world, as well as writing a recount as if we were in Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted! A day of making our own volcano is on the cards, as well as drawing around each other as if we were the bodies found underneath all the ash and rubble of the Pompeii devastation!

In English we are:

Focusing on the ebook 'Storm'.

We will be completing lots of descriptive writing activities to really show off our vocabulary skills.

We will also be writing a speech based on the events from the book which we will perform to each other in class.

The final week before half term, we will be 'Word Detectives'- focusing on our spelling skills.

In Maths we are:

Continuing our learning about fractions- comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting them, working with tenths and recognising their relativeness to decimals.

We will also be recapping multiplication and division to ensure we are 'Masters' at those operations.

We will then be moving onto learning about statistics and data- looking at and creating bar charts, graphs, tables and pie charts.

In Religious Education we are:

Learning about Easter.

Moving onto Pentecost.

Within this half term, we will also be completing weekly Collective Worship sessions where our Prayer Leaders will lead us into a prayer and then we will complete a related activity according to the Liturgical Calendar.

Furthermore, we will be trying to fit in time to do little preparation activities for our First Holy Communion.
